#1: Gibbons to Gospel  Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 7:00 pm.  Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 78 Clifton Road at St. Clair, Toronto (W. of Mt. Pleasant)

  • From their very recent appearance at U.S. President B. Obama’s inauguration, we welcome Brainerd Blyden-Taylor and the renowned Nathaniel Dett Chorale!
      As tireless representatives of Afrocentric choral music, this professional ensemble truly “builds bridges of understanding, appreciation, and acceptance between communities of people…”
      We unite in song to enhance the lives of our audience by bringing the timeless choral works of: Byrd, Tallis, Gibbons, Whitacre and Tomkins, the empowering music from the legacy of Nathaniel Dett and selections from the wealth of a jubilant and uplifting Gospel repertoire.

#2: It's a Launch! - New CD on the ECM Label   Saturday, November 14, 2009, 3:00 p.m.

  • Featured work: Lamentatio Jeremiae Propheate: Concerto for bass clarinet and choir (2007), by Peter-Anthony Togni
       Having premiered, toured and recorded Peter-A. Togni’s brilliant masterpiece “Lamentations of Jeremiah,” Canada’s Elmer Iseler Singers celebrate the international launch of their new CD on the ECM Record Label (Manfred Eicher,producer)
       Against the beautiful surroundings of St. Anne’s, a designated Toronto National Historic Site, bass clarinetist Jeff Reilly, conductor Lydia Adams and the Singers weave the intricate, universal tale of a prophet who speaks the truth and is disregarded.
       This compelling and expressive work ultimately offers the listeners a renewal of hope for the future. Togni is a true Canadian musical triumph treasure.
    To be recorded on ECM records in an international release is an honour!

#3: Messiah by G. F. Handel  Friday, December 4, 2009, 8:00 pm

  • Joining forces with the Amadeus Choir and a stellar cast of electrifying and exceptional Canadian musicians, Lydia Adams and the Elmer Iseler Singers continue the tradition of Handel’s exuberant and overwhelmingly popular oratorio, MESSIAH.
    Faulkner expressed his sentiments towards this 1742 Dublin premiered work which Handel wrote in only 24 days: “…The Sublime, the Grand,
    and the Tender, adapted the most elevated, majestick and moving Words, conspired to transport and charm the ravished Heart and Ear….”

  • How appropriate it is to celebrate the return to Toronto of Poland’s Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the world’s greatest living composers, in the exquisite and intimate St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.
      Featuring the North American debut of the acclaimed Polish Chamber Choir from Gdansk and including works by Henryk Gorecki and a World Premiere by Norbert Palej, more than 100 voices will soar in this breathtaking retrospective!
      Lydia Adams and Canada’s Elmer Iseler Singers warmly welcome the Polish Chamber Choir, the Toronto Children’s Chorus and the MacMillan Singers.

  • The beauty of the earth and the gift of life will be expressed in song as we bring you three World Premieres:
    "
    Nūrun’ alā Nūr/Light Upon Light", a new work by Hussein Janmohamed of Vancouver; Ruth Watson Henderson’s Song Cycle, "Paths of a Luminous Earth", libretto by Carole H. Leckner - commissioned by the Ontario Arts Council; and Carol for the Night by Canadian composer Jason Jestadt.

    Also featuring Canadian works by
    Adams, Corlis, Schafer, Daley and Togni that will inspire as “We breathe the spirit of our search, the hope that beats in our hearts.” (Carole H. Leckner).
